'Your head' is a somewhat sarcastic figure of speech frequently used by Malaysians to portray disbelieve at an unbelievable statement. Often accompanied by 'lah', a Malaysian slang.

-A design I submitted some time ago for the Slurpee Cup Design 2008 contest, which turned out to be a HUGE disappointment because, according to Gmail, the email receiving the submissions' inbox was full. That ought to stop me patronizing the unhealthy, sugar-overloaded ice-blended drink for awhile.

As for the short absence, I was enjoying a holiday at the beautiful island of Langkawi. Managed to squeeze in some drawing time. Hopefully I'll find the time to upload a few of them.

Also, I got myself an interview on ThinkTank, an online magazine provoking thought for the youth of today, run by a few peeps from my Youth Church. I've been helping out in the design department for almost a year now, and maybe they thought it only necessary to reward me with an interview[click]. *wink* Hopefully, this will be the first of many.

P/S- My schedule is starting to look busy again! So the updates here may decrease. But only just a little!

-It's as if the losses just keep on coming. Emily, my faithful Etch-a-Sketch, was finally laid to rest two days ago. She and I have spent uncountable hours of getting to know each other better and just the simple notion of having fun. Among some of the many (attempted) 'drawings' I've done on her were a lion's head (my greatest achievement on her), a cartoon dog, and unforgettably, square people making out. Sure, I didn't become the next Etch-a-Sketchist in the period of time with her, but I was good enough to actually create images with her. All thanks to Emily, who will be deeply missed.

Heath Ledger The Late

-Hollywood lost a big name yesterday when Heath Ledger was found dead in an apartment. Police say drug overdose may have played a part in the 28 year-old actor's death. This came as a shocker for me, even more astounding than the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith or even Steve Irwin last year. Had he not have acted in the repulsive Brokeback Mountain, I would have said he was a fairly good actor. But then again...

...it's good to start drawing 'comic art' again. Smooth, clean lines- they weren't as hard as I thought. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the future.

-First of all, yes, I meant to misspell that word. And yes, the 'Switchfoot Live in KL' concert tickets are in my hands! This puts all doubts of 'did-I-really-book-those-tickets' behind me, and now all that's left to do is to count the days go by. That's 11 days left...

Rooftop To The Sky

-As I promised on my previous post, I would try to squeeze in a drawing or two during the leaders' retreat. While most of my time was filled with leadership talks and spending time with friends, I still found the time to do at least a drawing. It was 7:15 AM, and I was one of the earliest to wake up. I sat myself on the bench outside, in the cold, fresh air, and looked around for inspiration. So I sketched down the first thing I looked at, the rooftops of the building we were staying in and the breath-taking clouds in the sky.

After spending what seemed like five hours out in the freezing air, fingers numb and all, I decided that this drawing wasn't to be put to waste. So I did some quick, simple coloring on Photoshop and also added the clouds effect with brushes. Some experimenting at work there... *grin*

P/S- While coloring, I couldn't remember the exact colors of the building, so I gave it a shot with what was left of my memory.

If you wanna put it that way. going off to Genting (again...groan) tonight for a retreat for my youth church's leaders, so there'll be a three-to-four-day-absence of new drawings here! BUT you still can hop over here and 'observe' the drawings and try to find OR come up with a hidden message behind my work. *wink*

And hopefully I can squeeze in a drawing or two while I'm up there.

-The Malaysian Open badminton tournament kicked off yesterday, with some of the world's top players competing for the champion's tag. Malaysia's hopes in the men's singles competition rests on Lee Chong Wei, the World no. 2, who kicked off his campaign yesterday with a win over compatriot Hafiz Hashim. Having watched yesterday's first round matches (my dad received free passes from a friend), I decided to draw something on this subject, so I chose Lee, poised to strike, executing his famous forehand smash.

-Exactly 17 years ago, Denise Ng, a dear friend of mine, came into this jolly ol' world. Throughout the years she has never failed to brighten one's day, or simply make one smile. As a small act of appreciation for all the gloomy-turned-bright days, exchanged secrets, or just enjoying each other's company- Dearest 'Nise, a very Happy Birthday.

And of course, there's always trying and experimenting with new and different 'art styles'- In this case, the repetition of text forming the shape or silhouette of a drum set, one of the many things Denise simply rocks in/on.

One of my 'resolutions' for this year was to, of course, post up more of my work up here, so continue checking this site out for more updates!

-First post of the year! You can guess I'm having a pretty hard time going back to the lifestyle of textbooks and equations.

I had decided digitally coloring takes up too much of my time if I was to update more regularly, so I experimented with painting my drawings by hand. The last time I remembered, I was PRETTY BAD at doing that, but somehow found myself getting out the Buncho poster paints and brushes, and as I result I got this. I knew I wasn't that good and accurate with a brush, so I decided to give it an imperfect, rough, 'colored out of the lines' look. Inspired (yet again) by one of Lehel Kovacs' work.

And I've posted up a Cbox on your right along the sidebar so that you hard-working people can have less trouble commenting!

Yes, I know. My average post would start off with a kick-ass picture(Oh, the humility!), but sadly, this isn't your average post. (partly because I have no time to draw and even upload images as I'm pretty 'busy' with Christmas and New Year celebrations)

-In case the news hasn't reached you yet, San Diego's finest, Switchfoot, is indeed setting foot on Malaysian soil. And for a die-hard Switchfoot fan like me, I'm obviously ecstatic at the thought of checking 'attend a Switchfoot concert' off my 'lifetime dreams' list. (the almost-full story here)

-As Washington Irving puts it, 'the season for kindling the fire of hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart' is fast approaching, and I've caught the contagious Christmas spirit, and as a result, my jolly ol' pen and I have just completed an update just for you! Merry Christmas!

Sadly, I didn't manage to squeeze in an update before camp. The amount of work piling on me was simply intense. (but as a result, I helped design the camp backdrop and also got my design printed on the camp shirt! Updates on that definitely coming soon) On the other hand, camp was absolutely awesome. Seeing lives touched and getting touched myself was definitely something memorable. And now that it's all over, I'm back to the 'normal' life, (or so I like to think) and you can bet on seeing more updates on this blog!

I Have A Girlfriend...

-Poking fun at 'those people' who all get hyped up over getting a girlfriend. The drawing was done awhile back. It was just a quick sketch off a magazine, with the same loose lines you've been seeing in most of my drawings.

It's a busy year end for me. I'm in part of the committee for my youth church's annual camp, THE event of the year. So it's been all craziness and hectic rushing as the deadline draws closer. Hopefully I can sneak in one more post before the camp starts. Until then...

Boy With A Flower

-Instead of depending on digitally coloring, I decided to shade, or 'hatch', this piece with my good ol' pens. It was fun and interesting to play around with different methods and strokes, and I must say, this is one of my most enjoyable works in recent times. A pretty gloomy feel, but nonetheless enjoyable.

-It's time for die-hard Switchfoot fans, like me, to get hyped. Frontman Jon Foreman is releasing a solo EP, "Fall" due November 20th! "Organic, acoustic, folk" is what Philemon Thomas describes Jon's first EP, "Fall" (on Switchfoot.com). Upon hearing some previews of his upcoming work, all I can say is it's gonna be really good. And he's releasing four (including "Fall") solo EPs prior to the next Switchfoot release. These EPs, titled "Fall", "Winter", "Spring", and "Summer", features some of Jon's most personal songs to date with innovative arrangements and inspired and intimate production. Get excited, people!

The Town That I Live In

-One of the subjects I rarely work on is building and landscape. But after seeing some artists' work, I decided to venture into working on my very own piece. Based loosely on Lehel Kovacs' architecture illustrations, I've completed possibly my most detailed, time-occupying piece in a long time. This drawing is of group of buildings/shop-lots in the city I live in: Kuala Lumpur.
